Being a model requires these things.

Being A professional model begins with a client wanting to pay you for the look they need. If you don't get paid then its just a hobby, or someone taking advantage of you. The look is generally what your born with and how it come across in pictures. If you don't have the look clients need there's nothing you can do about it.The rest is is how you as a professional market yourself. The person who shows up on time, always looks good on camera, knows how to pose, shows the right expressions and makes the shoot go quickly gets the job. And ultimately gets called back for more work.
That's why clients pay the big bucks for top models.Because they get it right the first time. After a while they become recognized as the star performers and are wanted by other clients as well.

1. Fashion Modeling.
New York, Paris type top models. The clothes and beauty products industry is the largest user of models. The high fashion top label designers see these women as there name Imply 's, model women. Tall, long legged, slim, swan necked, very young girls are what they consider to be the ideal women. In New York and Paris, These girls must be at least 5'9"-6" tall and size 0 to no more that 8. You can see already that's not very common. And for men at least 6" and a size 40 regular. And of course you then have to have that look to match the clothes. You must be photogenic and have that magazine type look as well. Generally an oval face, full lips, Almond shaped eyes, a straight nose and strong cheekbones. And that just puts you in the category after that its just a matter of what a client is looking for in a model.
These high fashion models get the highest pay, But, There's only a small handful of these models, as an example, how many can you name? These models can make from 4 million to 33 million dollars a year! As a contrast, A model for a mall fashion show may get paid nothing at all. Most people who try to break into fashion modeling will earn very little so don't quit your job just yet.
2. Fashion Editorial Modeling
Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Cosmo, Etc. These magazines and others spotlight high fashion and have lots of pages to fill from top designers. Most of the pages feature what the magazine and designers think the next trend is or should be. Jewelry designers, perfume, shoes, handbags etc. Every designer must promote there new fashion ideas and this is the place world see's what's been designed for us all to wear. These models don't get the high pay that fashion models do but it's the best place to gain your reputation as a top model, getting Ad tear sheets for your portfolio and because there not restricted to a runway work Etc. They can be used in high fashion Photography, And more extreme specialty beauty modeling.
3. Fashion Catalog Modeling
There are lots of clothing catalogs produced and shipped in the mail, Victoria's Secret, Frederick's of Hollywood, and many others. These catalogs require models to pose in the clothes they are directly selling to you. Generally these models are hand selected for a project or market they are trying to promote and target. For most of you this is ideal place to model because they're not many 16 to 20 yr. olds used here. They generally look for Classic looks, Tall, Healthy, Slender, Average and Pretty. They market to you, and say if you buy these clothes you can look as pretty as as the model pictured in this catalog. Catalog models get paid very well because they must take a high volume of photos to get the right look they need for the garment. Some department store chain photographers may take weeks just to produce one catalog. That's a lot of payable hours billed to the retailer. And a lot of work for the model. These models are then usually asked to return for additional shoots for the same department store because they've developed a certain look for that retailer. I e. Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated Etc.
4. Fashion Print Modeling
This is beauty and fashion modeling for print advertising such as display ads, packaging, advertising material, posters, department store sign's, retail promotions Etc. This is very demanding work to find but pays very well because of the exclusive's and usage. These advertisement's can make or break a designers reputation. These models are very important to clients to convey a certain perfect image or concept they are trying to display for they're product.
